Track: STEM Instruction
How do scientists solve everyday problems? This is an activity to engage students in the discovery of how science works in the real world. Students work through common misconceptions that science is done by a “cookbook” set of instructions provided by the teacher.
Participants will work collaboratively to reach a consensus on the rules that dictate what they can observe. This activity can easily be modified for any grade level or subject area, and uses simple terms to introduce students to critical processes of science such as observations, hypothesis testing, analysis of data, collaboration, communication, and supporting conclusions with evidence.
