STEM is an ever-growing field, with new research developments and applications. Jobs that are done today did not exist even 20 or 30 years ago, and varying credentials that were not needed years ago are now a requirement. The U.S. Department of Commerce predicts that the percent of increase in STEM professions will be about 17 percent. This increase is due in part to these new careers, that were developed.
